Sophia Tamaro is a European writer and director. She was born in Trieste to German/Italian parents and grew up between there and Hong Kong. She graduated with a First Class Honours degree from the University of Kent in 2014, where she studied Film. In 2015, Sophia started working for casting director Beatrice Kruger on several international projects. She became a translator of scripts, treatments and pitch decks for European production companies at the same time. In 2017, after moving to Berlin, Sophia wrote, produced and directed "Unexpected Monsters", a short drama about an unrepentant mother who tries reconnecting with her estranged daughter. She met fellow writer Jo Fox at the London Screenwriters' Festival and was subsequently hired to direct family drama "Coming Home" in Yorkshire, produced by Fox Grosvenor Films. Sophia and Jo have several projects together, among which erotic psychological drama "Freya", which was selected as a Finalist by the prestigious ScreenCraft Short Film Screenplay Competition and the Screenwriting competition at the New Orleans Film Festival. The script was also a Second Rounder at the Austin Film Festival. In 2020 and 2021, Sophia took on different roles in the production office and AD department of high-profile projects for big American studios (Sony) and streamers (Netflix). In autumn 2021, she was hired to co-write a historical espionage drama for Full Dozen Films and is now attached to two other Full Dozen projects as a writer. Sophia is currently developing "The First Orgasm", a black comedy feature that will also be her directorial debut. She and the project were just selected for the 3rd edition of Pitch_It.
